How to open a Hong Kong account

Things to know

Need to open a bank account with HSBC Hong Kong? You can apply with us if you:

  • are at least 18 years old
  • meet additional criteria depending on where you live
  • have proof of ID, proof of address and additional documents if needed, subject to qualification status, local laws and regulations

HSBC Premier and Jade customers automatically qualify for HSBC Premier in Hong Kong. There are different ways to open a bank account with HSBC HK, subject to eligibility.

Apply online via mobile app (HKID holder only)

You'll need to download the HSBC HK Mobile Banking app to open an account online. You can apply if you're:

  • a Hong Kong ID holder
  • new to HSBC
  • between the ages of 18-64
  • living in Australia, Canada, Macau SAR, Singapore, the UK or the US

Arrange a call back with International Banking Centre

If you don't meet the criteria or you don’t want to use the mobile app, or you're looking to open a joint account, please leave your details on our quick form. Our International Banking Centre will get in touch to help you open an account.

Apply upon arrival in Hong Kong

If you're in Hong Kong, simply:

  • visit any HSBC branch
  • book online
  • call our service hotline at 852 2233 3000
